Book Review...and More!

Last night I finished yet another book! I know, me! I am on a roll people! Good thing since I bought a total of 9 books last week. Oops.

Here's what I just finished:

I heard such rave reviews from so many people about this book. It is told from the perspective of a dog which definitely give the book a different spin.

From Publishers Weekly:
If you've ever wondered what your dog is thinking, Stein's third novel offers an answer. Enzo is a lab terrier mix plucked from a farm outside Seattle to ride shotgun with race car driver Denny Swift as he pursues success on the track and off. Denny meets and marries Eve, has a daughter, Zoƫ, and risks his savings and his life to make it on the professional racing circuit. Enzo, frustrated by his inability to speak and his lack of opposable thumbs, watches Denny's old racing videos, coins koanlike aphorisms that apply to both driving and life, and hopes for the day when his life as a dog will be over and he can be reborn a man. When Denny hits an extended rough patch, Enzo remains his most steadfast if silent supporter.

Truthfully, I wasn't a huge fan of this book. There was a LOT of racing lingo and references which went completely over my head and I had no desire to understand. And although the ending of the book was quite good, the rest of it made me mad and uncomfortable. It was kind of like one of those movies you're watching...and when something happens you say, "Okay, that's it. I'm not watching this anymore." But I couldn't just shut it off. I had to finish it. And the ending was fantastic. But, did it make up for the rest of the book? Not really.

Has anyone else read this book?? What did you think? I'm pretty sure I am in the minority with this review so please don't base anything on my review alone :)

Onto other things....

I received this award from Paris Pink at The Pink Polka Dot the other day. What a sweetheart!!

Sugar, Sugar

Recently, my fabulous friends from Happily Ever After and A Journey Through the Waiting Game gave me this award!

How sweet! I don't think I have ever been called a Sugar Doll before. I kinda like it! My husband's mother sometimes calls him a sugar cube...but that's another story.

I'm supposed to list 10 interesting facts about myself. Hm. What don't you know?

I know! I'll tell you about my night last night!

1. Matt and I went to Outback last night because I had a coupon for a FREE Bloomin' Onion that I had to use by the 30th. FREE people! And I love me some Bloomin' Onion.

2. We pretended it was our first date. I got all dressed up and met him there after work. We introduced ourselves and everything. Ha!

3. When we sat down, I proceeded to ask him about his wedding ring and he told me that his "wife" had died in a steel toed shoe accident. Died? Yeah. Apparently the shoe fell on her head. Oh dear.

And if you didn't know, I have to wear steel toed shoes to work on a daily basis.

4. I then told him that I had actually been married before as well. But my dear husband had also died falling off a ladder putting up our Christmas lights. (Matt refuses to hang Christmas lights on our house. Pure laziness I tell you.)

5. We spent the whole dinner talking about our "dead" spouses. Matt's "wife" was a masseuse and used to give him massages almost every night. (Fat chance.) My "husband" traveled the world with me, took me to Paris on our honeymoon, and ordered all sorts of fancy wines for me to try. (Again, fat chance.)

6. I think our waitress thought we were nuts.

7. I realized I am so happy I don't have to date anymore. I was trying to be all proper and first-datey and I did not like it.

What I do like:
eating off Matt's plate without asking
using my fingers to eat my Bloomin' Onion (it kept falling off the fork into the dip!)
eating more Bloomin' Onion than my husband and not caring
even ORDERING a freaking Bloomin' Onion and not just a salad, grilled chicken, or something equally as blah
not caring about my onion breath
talking about how I felt like I was going to explode after dinner

...all things I never, ever would've done on a first date.

8. Matt tried to shake my hand when we parted ways at the end of the night.

9. Our pretend first date was pretty fun while it lasted...

10. But I was happy to get home to my (not dead) husband.

Obsessions...

This weekend I discovered something wonderful!!! What, do you ask, deserves three, count them, three exclamation points?

source

Of course it's food. What else would it be??

I'm not a huge ice cream girl, well, at least not at the grocery store. I rarely buy it. But this little beauty caught my eye and I knew it must be mine! And guess what?? It's only 100 calories per serving! Yep. 2 totally worth it points. Top it with some Lite Reddi Whip and you're good to go! It's like pumpkin pie yumminess without the crust.

I also spotted some Peppermint and other seasonal flavors that I cannot wait to try! Yum!

And on another note...my fabulous friend Sonja from For the Love of Stilettos presented me with this award the other day.

Her own blog is freaking fabulous (that's probably why she got the award to begin with!?!) so check it out if you haven't already.

The rules are to tell you 5 things I am completely obsessed with and nominate 5 of my fabulous favorite bloggers as well!

My current obsessions include (but are not limited to):
1. Candy corn--> Note I haven't had any yet this season, but my mind is constantly thinking about it. I especially love the pumpkins.

2. Sopranos-->I have been re-watching the whole series of the Sopranos and I am finally almost done! I think I only have 3 more DVD's left to get from Netflix. I seriously love this show. Sometimes it makes me want to be in the mob. Wouldn't it be awesome? I mean, think about the perks...and the money...and the family loyalty!?! So there may be a wee little violence involved, and being a female in the mob is probably not the safest position to hold, but hey, no job's perfect.

3. Glee-->Speaking of TV, Glee is definitely my new favorite show this season. I do find it a little hard to get used to when they burst into song during the middle of a scene, but I love it. The main guy kind of annoys me and doesn't really fit the whole quarterback stereotype they have given him, but I'll give him a pass. He's kinda cute...for a high schooler and all.

source

4. Cake!-->I have an order for a wedding cake that I am starting to work on this weekend and it is all I can think about. So.much.to.do!

5. Traveling-->This isn't something that I am just obsessed with right now but all of the time. I'm constantly looking for my next trip, to my husband's chagrin, and I am always planning things really far in advance in my head...like a trip to Texas, Paris, Israel, Rome, Greece, Las Vegas, Alaska...

See what I mean?

I will pass this award along to some of my very favorite bloggers. Girls who are so fabulous sometimes I cannot stand that I do not know them in real life....because we would for sure be the bestest of friends.

Mish Mosh

Meet Kristen. She has a goal: lose 40 lbs. by June for her sister's wedding. Now this is someone with a plan! I recruited her (begged her) to be my accountability partner. I'm in a dieting slump and my motivation wavers by the hour...but I recognize this as a problem and I.need.help!

We are going to stay in touch about what we are eating throughout the week, what we are doing to work out, send each other recipes, and just be there for support. Although we just started this week, I can already see a difference in my thinking. Just knowing I am going to have to e-mail her what I ate is keeping me on track. I think about eating something and then I say to myself, "Self, what is Kristen going to think when you tell her you ate a cookie after breakfast??"

It has also been easier for me to recognize my problem areas: times of the day when I tend to munch, days I don't feel like working out, instances when I need to be eating more fruits instead of processed goods. It all seems to become clearer when you type it out and send your information to a stranger. I think that is the key for me. I know if I sent it to my mom, I wouldn't care what she had to say about it. If she told me not to eat a cookie for breakfast, I would tell her, "I do what I want!" But with Kristen, I want to work hard and eat well and be supportive for her.

So...I'll keep you posted!

Tonight is our official Welcome Cocktail for the new members of the Junior League, i.e. me. Hopefully it should be a fun time! The majority of our league is East-siders...which doesn't bode well for this West-side girl seeing as I have to travel all over the city to events. But, I guess it's a small price to pay for free wine and appetizers. Note to self, bring your dieting willpower to this event.

On another note, my dear bloggy friend A NYC H.I.T. presented me with the Splash Award.

This award is given to alluring, amusing, bewitching, impressive, and inspiring blogs. Wow! Thanks friend! I wonder if my husband thinks I'm alluring?? Annoying maybe. Ha!

Catch Up!

I cannot believe it is already July! The summer is flying by and that makes me extremely sad. Before you know it I'll be talking about how much I hate shoveling snow!

Since I cannot for the life of my think of anything to blog about today, I thought I'd catch up on an award...

I recently received this!

I received this lovely award from a cute little blog called A Journey Through The Waiting Game. What a great title huh? Head on over and show her some love!

The Honest Scrap award comes with a caveat or two.

**First, you have to tell your readers ten things about you
they may not know but that are true.

**Second, you have to tag 10 people with the award.

**Third, let all the people you've given the award to know that they've gotten it (commen
t on their blogs or something).

**And finally, ma
ke sure you link back to the person who awarded you."

So 10 things about me that you don't already know?? Hm.

1. You know I have a fear of birds, but did you know that my family used to have birds for pets when I was little? Wasn't scared then!

2. I send snail mail birthday cards to all of my friends and family. I think everyone should get a card on their birthday.

3. I plan my workouts two weeks in advance.

4. I sometimes forget to write my own posts because I am too busy reading everyone else's.

5. I always complain about not having any friends, but then when someone calls I don' t answer the phone.

6. I'm currently reading the Bible cover to cover. It's going SLOWLY but I'm finally beginning to make a dent.

7. I can sit on the couch all day long by myself and be perfectly content doing nothing, but as soon as Matt gets home I can't. I feel antsy and completely bored if we sit on the couch too long without doing anything.

8. I'm obsessed with the show Still Standing. I didn't discover it until it was already canceled and in reruns on Lifetime but it is SO hilarious I can't even begin to explain.

9. I like designing and prepping for my cakes more than I do actually doing the work to bake and decorate them.

10. I got a Twitter account but I never have anything to tweet about myself so I just read what everyone else is tweeting.

I'll tag:
All things Fluffy...Fashinable...& Famous...

California Born and Virginia Raised

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!! I LOVE short weeks at work. One more day! :)

Running Update!

So remember when I started running and I was doing the run/walk method? I had an 8 week plan which started off with a lot of walking and a few minutes of running and eventually ended up with just running. It centered around time and not distance. Well, since that plan ended, I have taken up another 8 week plan. This one is not as concerned with time as it is with distance.

I'm currently on week 3 and yesterday I ran my very first ever 2 miler!! I have never in my whole life ran 2 miles without stopping. I know this doesn't seem like a lot...but for me...HUGE accomplishment! I think it was the new songs on my iPod. The change really energized me! I'm excited to keep this up for the rest of the week and hopefully improve my time a little each session.

So, of course, I'm totally pumped to show off my new mileage to hubs when he comes home...so I say, "Guess how much I ran today??" First he said, "5 miles?" I laughed at his guess and then he said, "10 miles?" Ha! Thanks for making my 2 stinking miles look like nothing honey. But I guess I shall love you anyways, since I promised God and all...

And in other news, Heather at Mrs. Southern Bride gave me this lovely award the other day! She is too sweet. She and her husband Josh are the cutest couple ever and you have to check out her blog if you haven't done so already. So go!

I'm going to pass this award on to my 5 newest followers!!

Mrs. W from Keeping Up With the Westmorelands
Angela Darling from 20-Something Dreams
Life of a Savannah Bride
New England Girl
Semjenole from Jen's Modern Life

Thanks for following ladies! And I'm super excited to start learning more about you!!

Weekend Running...and an Award!

I did something today, ladies, that I thought I would never do. I RAN to the gym. Yep...who does that?? Only a crazy person...I say!

The gym is three miles from my house...and I no where near ran the whole distance...but I ran the 3-eight minute intervals that are required for this week and walked the rest. I was planning on doing an hour Zumba class and then some lifting...and then Matt was going to pick my lazy butt up because I didn't want to have to walk home :) Well the sucky Zumba instructor was there (the one where I could do a whole class and not even sweat! I mean...if I'm going to get my butt out of bed for a 9:30 am Zumba class on a Saturday...I want to sweat lady! Quit catering to the old farts in the class and help me lose weight!) So I skipped it...did my lifting...and walked all the way back home! Now...I'm spent.

I will say though...that my left calf is KILLING me. I don't know what's up...but it just started hurting yesterday. I'm trying not to be a wuss and "play through the pain" but the pain is starting to make it hard to walk! I'm taking the day off tomorrow from running...so hopefully I will be feeling better by Monday.

So check out what I got!

The lovely Novelista Barista AND Ruggy 13 at Adorably Distracted gave me this award! Thank you ladies so much...I truly love reading your blogs and I really appreciate your kindness!

The award is for:
  1. Dedication for those who love blogging and love to encourage friendships through blogging AND

*Answer the award's question by writing the reason why you love blogging
*Tag and distribute the award to as many people as you like

So why do I love blogging?? I love having a place to go to share what I think and feel. It's a place where I get instant feedback on triumphs as well as tribulations and I have met the most amazing people; a place where I feel safe to express myself without judgment (for the most part!) and learn that there are so many people out there just like me...twenty somethings trying to find their place in the world!

I'll pass this award along to:

A NYC Housewife-In-Training
French Kiss
Naturally Caffeinated Family
Post Smith
The Shabby Princess

...some fabulous ladies who I want as "real life" friends and always make my days a little brighter with their comments. Love ya!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

The Ending of a Love Story

Dear Dr. Carter,

Upon the culmination of our 15 year relationship last Thursday evening, I wanted to express to you just how much our time together has meant to me. For many, many years, we had a weekly "date night" that I looked forward to with such anticipation. I didn't always know who you would be sleeping with, but I did know you would be thinking of me. Some days I didn't know if you were going to live or die, but I know my love for you pulled you through.

The bond we shared was strong, but I took it hard when you left me for Africa. I gave up on watching your friends in the ER...only to return when there was some minute chance you would be reappearing for a visit. Then when you came back a few weeks ago, it was like nothing had changed...no time had passed. It's like you finally realized what was missing for so many years...and we were reunited at last. Although you did scare me half to death with your whole needing a kidney transplant issue, you pulled through and your death is not something I will ever have to endure (thank goodness!).

Although is seems as if you will remain at County General in Chicago, our weekly date nights have ended. We will no longer be able to see each other and my heart is saddened. You have left an impression on my life that can be touched by no one else. There is a smile that only your face can bring to existence, and that smile is gone...

So I bid you farewell John. I will always love you and I will look forward to reliving our times together in syndication.

Forever yours,

Jenny

So for real, did anyone watch the last episode of ER?? I was actually kind of disappointed. It was more like a regular episode than a finale of a show that lasted 15 years. And what's up with Dr. Carter and his wife?? Are they going to reunite...or what? Oh geez...

On another note, I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to A NYC Housewife-In-Training who hooked me up with both of these awesome awards! Thanks girlie...your blog totally rocks! I really appreciate it your thoughtfulness.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday!

Shredding!

Yesterday afternoon, Jillian put the hurt down on me...big time! Perhaps it was the fact that I had already spent an hour at the gym and THEN decided it was a good time to try for the first time my very own copy of the 30 day shred?? Who knows...but it was tough. I sweated more doing that than at the gym!

Onto more important things! The sweet Southern Bride gave me this award!

Her blog is super cute (probably why she got the award!) and you should definitely check it out!

Now onto the shame...writing 10 not so cute things about yourself...here we go:

1. After a workout: Fine...I'll admit it...I am a heavy sweater. Not a smelly sweater...just heavy. My clothes are soaked through after a workout, my hair is nasty, and my makeup is smeared...not cute!

2. My lack of showering: Sometimes after these workouts...I do not shower right away...and when I say right away...I mean not until the next morning. Yep...gross. I HATE to shower!

3. After a nap: I'm all groggy and I usually have lines on my face from the couch.

4. Lounging around the house: In my sweats...looking like a bum...not cute.

5. After my shower: When I finally do shower in the morning and my eye makeup from the day before is smeared all over my face. No matter what I do the night before...it just doesn't come off (and hey...sometimes I don't do a darn thing...)

6. When I'm bored: I get really antsy just sitting on the couch with the hubby doing nothing. I just keep saying over and over, "I'm bored!" And when he askes me what I want to do...I say, "I don't know!"--not cute...and kind of annoying.

7. When I'm in cake decorating mode: I get super intense because I want everything to be perfect...and when it doesn't go as planned...I take it out on the closet thing to me...the hubs! Sorry!

8. Doing yoga: I try to take yoga once a week...and I'm a master on the Wii Fit...but in the class with all of the beautiful size 0's...I am NOT cute!

9. When I brush my teeth: For some reason I get all of the toothpaste all over my face when I brush. We have one of those Sonicare brushes so it goes for 2 minutes and you can't take it out of your mouth or it will spray everywhere....so I have to stand over the sink and let the escaping foam drip out of my mouth. I've tried to put only a dot of toothpaste! It's gross...and I don't know how to fix it!

10. When I wake up: I sleep with my hair in a pony tail so it always ends up super crazy in the morning...like on the side of my head or something. It is definitely not what I would call cute.

I'm glad that's over!

I'll tag:

Brown Eyed Girl & Her Beau
Blue-Eyed Bride
Life at the White House
The Undomesticated Wife

If you've already done it...don't feel like you have to do it again. I guess you're just extra cute!! Love you guys!

My Very First Award!

A HUGE thank you to Sweet Tea Diaries for being so sweet and giving me the Kreativ Blogger award! This is my first award and I am so excited that people are enjoying reading my little blog! I am just having a blast and meeting some fabulous people who are simply spectacular!!

Here are the award rules:

**List 7 things that you love and then pass the award on to 7 bloggers you love!**

**Be sure to tag them and let them know they have won!**

**You can copy the picture of the award and put it on your sideboard letting the whole world know.....you are KREATIV!**

Now...the 7 things I love:

-Fridays...they are my "during the week" day off of working out so I get to go straight home after work at 3 p.m. and sit on my butt watching Days of Our Lives and anything else I want until my hubby gets home!

-making lists...I makes lists weeks in advance for things I have to do...I make meal plans a week in advance...I love doing the grocery list...and I make to do lists for little jobs to do when I have time to spare. This isn't all...but I will spare you!

-eating dinner at the table...our dining room is quite small in the house we are renting so we haven't been able to buy a dining room table yet (we want a bigger one when we move) so all we have is this little two person table in our kitchen. We never really use it and always eat on the couch, but on those specials days where we actually sit at the table and talk rather than watch TV...I'm in heaven!

-a clean house...I'm not one to do a lot of small cleaning jobs daily...but when I start cleaning...I must clean the whole house and really clean it. An example...if I start to vacuum the living room, I must then vacuum every room in the house that has carpet. And then when I'm done I think to myself, "Why can't we just keep the house clean like this all the time?" I still haven't figured that one out.

-sending snail mail...I LOVE sending all of my family and friends cards for their birthdays. I think everyone should get mail on their birthdays and I love being that person who remembered. I transfer all of the birthdays to my daily calendar at home every year so I am sure not to miss one!

-Purdue! Both my degrees are from Purdue and I absolutely adore it there. If only I lived closer so I could be one of those alumni that go to all of the football games! Ah...I guess I will continue to worship from afar...

-and last but not least...my hubby! What can I say?? I just LOVE HIM!

And now onto the best part...passing on the award!!

These ladies are some of my faves and definite "must reads" you should add to your list!

1. Adventures in Newlywed
2. Newlyweds Next Door
3. Barefoot in the Park
4. Dugout Daisy
5. First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage
6. Mandy at House of Rose
7. Life of a Southern Belle

I also wanted to thank everyone who responded to my post yesterday and shared advice on spicing up my blog! I will definitely be contacting you guys in the near future :) You are all fantastic friends and I REALLY appreciate the help!!

Happy Friday!!
