Mix & Match

My pantry is filled with opened boxes of cereal. Who is the culprit you ask? Well I'll tell you. It's this man!

Oh yeah. I just went there...posted a picture of you stuffing your face, getting BBQ sauce all over yourself. Sure, he looks all cute and innocent, but don't let that face fool you.

My dear husband is constantly leaving boxes of cereal in the pantry with less than one bowl's worth of cereal left in them. Now, maybe this wouldn't be so much of an issue if it were only one box. But there have been upwards of four boxes at a time like this! Those boxes take up a lot of space people! Why does he leave it in the pantry and not throw it away? No idea. It is a long five steps to the trash so maybe that has something to do with it?? But I'm leaning more towards his inability to get rid of anything.

I should note that we rarely share cereal. Matt likes grown up cereal while I intend on eating Count Chocula and Reese Puffs until I die. I will occasionally indulge in Frosted Mini Wheats, but that is as adult as I get. Proof the boxes are his doing.

So what is my solution?

I eat them. And I mix them with my cereal to make a whole bowl. In fact, I mixed the last of the Fiber One Honey Clusters with Frosted Flakes this morning. And it was pretty darn good. I mix everything. I've even mixed three cereals before. Hubs won't even touch this idea and he thinks it's weird....but I find throwing them out wasteful so mixing it is.

Anyone else do this?

yep, I def mix cereals if it means not wasting the end of a box! BTW the wedding cake turned out awesome!

I would definitely mix them. I also sometimes use the last of the box for other recipes. For example, cheerios or corn flakes make a delicious coating for chicken.

I'm not a big cereal person, so, I don't mix them often, but, we have a similar problem in our house! The husband isn't so bad with cereal boxes, but, anything 'big' (cereal boxes, milk jugs, popcorn box, etc), when they are empty, instead of putting them in the trash can (they might take up too much room and we'd need to empty the trash?) they just sit on the counter next to the trash can. Drives me batty!

Thank goodness, this is the one Man habit my hubs doesn't have. But its the only one. And if I show him this, he might just start doing it. He's funny like that.

can't say i have ever mixed cereal nor do i eat it.
my fiance does the exact same thing with cereal as your hubby though! asks for box of cereal, i pick it up, he opens it and has one bowl and never touches the box again. they all get thrown away, i clean our cabinets once a month. i think i am cutting him off from cereal though ;)

haha! I'm not much of a cereal person but as far as "grown up" cereals - i love honey bunches of oats!

also lucky charms are a perfectly good snack food for any time of day!

ewww. i don't like to mix cereal but my little brothers always do the "not enough left for a bowl"
i usually eat a small bowl of one and then switch to a small bowl of the other.

and for the record, i will never morph to adult cereal ever. count chocula, lucky charms, and cinnamon toast crunch are the best ever.

I occasionally mix cereals, but I often get on a one type of cereal kick and only eat that kind for months. Right now it is raisin bran, and has been for quite some time. So, I never have to worry about that! But I can see how it would be annoying to find nearly-empty cereal boxes! :)

Too funny! Josh is much more into the grown up cereals too! I like my fruit loops and cocoa pebbles. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. HA!

I LOVE cereal, but I try not to eat it very often because I have no sense of portion control. My typical bowl of cereal is probably twice the serving size on the box! eek. I don't mind mixing though. I like Kashi Honey Crunch (? I think that's what it's called) mixed with Honey Bunches of Oats. Soo yummy. And makes my beloved HBOO a bit healthier.

Hahahaha this is so funny! See, that would annoy me too. I do think you're creative for mixing the cereals! It makes it a little healthier and different!

Sounds like you may just be on your way to discovering a whole new cereal all together! Patent it...FAST!

I'm too picky and rigid to try something like this. My husband would probably do something similar though...he's not picky at all :)
