Rocket?

This week I was asked to do a graduation cake for the son of one of my co-workers. His son is going to the University of Toledo next year so he (his wife) decided on a rocket cake. He was not the easiest client I have ever had...as he changed his mind about the design three times (and yes, I planed out the cake I was going to do three different times), never told me a flavor he wanted, and waffled on when it should be due. I was seriously annoyed by the time I started baking Wednesday evening. Then he had the audacity on Thursday to ask if it could be vanilla and chocolate. Um, no sir, it cannot. Maybe if you would've gotten back to me when I asked you to, but now, you will eat your vanilla cake and like it!

So yesterday I had to carve the cake, make the icing, and then ice this bad boy. The blue wing was giving me some major issues and I completely winged the design (ha!) as I was doing it...but when I was done I thought it turned out pretty well. My favorite part was my last minute addition of the fire!

So I sent the pictures of the cake out to my mom last night and I received this e-mail from her this morning:

"Looks neat but I am not sure what it is? What is it?"

Um, thanks. That made me feel just great. I was already concerned it was looking a little like fish...but I thought after I added the fire, the rocket was pretty obvious. Guess not.

But my mother did not stop there. When I ever so sweetly replied that it was supposed to be a rocket...this is what I got:

"Okay, we see it now. Susie was thinking dirty...................."

Susie is my mom's friend at work (and please forgive Mama's overuse of the periods...that is an everyday occurrence).

So now I am having a little panic attack thinking that my cake is now some sort of giant penis for a dude's graduation cake! Please tell me you didn't think that's what it was...please...

it's totally a rocket! hello, there's FLAMES coming out of the tailend! Ok, so maybe sans flames it looks a little bit like one of those goldfish crackers.. I AM JUST KIDDING. I think your cake is spectacular and if the graduate doesn't like it, he can take his vanilla/chocolate loving heiney elsewhere! :) (was that mean?)

It's definitely a rocket. If there is such thing as a penis with flames coming out of it, this is something I've never seen.

It's cute! Don't worry about the misinterpretation of the cake!!! With the short notice and design changes, clients get what they get! I am also coming to terms with working with clients. It's a dream when someone says use your artistic judgement!!! Then there are people who want champagne for the price of beer. And then there are some people who want to control every detail of the project... Oh well!!!

Its definitely a rocket girl...Resembles nothing like a penis as a penis is not yellow, does not have fire coming out the back end and why would you have blue strips on a penis? Lol...Don't worry! They'll love it...I have to admit though, I am a control freak when it comes to a design I have in mind but I would never be sketchy and then one day before ask you to give me the moon...not cool...Good JOB!

It may be just a little on the fat side for a rocket, but it certainly isn't a penis. I have been experimenting with cakes lately and all I can say is it isn't easy! Great job!

I got the rocket. No worries! I'm only sorry that you had to deal with such difficult clients. However, no worries about the cake itself; it looks fabulous!! Great job! Sorry I've been away for the past week; I had a good friend in town and wasn't able to do much on the computer. I'm back now, though :)

It's a rocket, if you are willing to put in some efforts (mental, as in)...
It's a goldfish, if you're not.

And it can become a giant penis if you put in a little too much extra mental effort (or creativity if you may).
Which, by the way, won't be a bad idea for a cake..!! :P
