Why I Do What I Do

Do you ever get really hyped up for a diet, everything is going really well for about, oh I don't know, a day, and then you just lose steam?  Of course you do!  We're women...we've all been there.  Well, I am there right now.  Some days I am super motivated.  Take me to a cook out, I'll find the fruit.  Out to eat, no problem...grilled chicken!  But then some random day at home?  Now I feel the need to eat everything in the house.  Why?  No idea.

On my motivated days, I sometimes sit and think about all of the reasons why I want to lose weight and goals I want to set for myself along the way.  Today, I thought I'd share those with you....and ask for additions....so maybe we can all look back on this list during the tough times and remember why we are doing this in the first place and what we want to accomplish!

Why I'm doing this:
  • Health.
    • I want to live a long, happy, and active life with my husband and future children.
  • Babies.
    • I've read that pregnancies and labor are easier on women who are fit and healthy.  And if there's anything I can do to make labor easier, I am sure as heck going to try!
  • Peace of  mind.
    • I lost a lot of weight before my wedding and I vowed to myself I would never, ever see a 2 at the beginning of my weight again.  There...I said it.  I was in the dreaded 2's.  But I'm not anymore...and I would really love to be down low enough that even when I get pregnant, I won't have to see that number again.
Goals:
  • Buy single digit jeans
  • Run a 5K (or at least 30 minutes on the treadmill!  No walking!)
  • Stop judging myself when I look in the mirror
  • Be able to watch The Biggest Loser and not think, "I need to go on that show."
  • Wear tank tops and not think my arms look fat
  • Be able to do Downward Facing Dog in Yoga class the whole time instead of stopping to rest
  • Look smoking hot when my BFF gets married possibly next summer
  • Beat said BFF in our fitness contest so she has to buy ME a drink at our annual Christmas dinner and not the other way around

Let's remember why we are doing this..and keep our motivation alive!

Why are you trying to lose weight??  Any goals you want to share?  Tell me!  Let's help each other!

Not surprisingly, we share many of the same goals!

-Lose weight and not hate myself when I look in the mirror
-Try to get hot pre-pregnancy
-Get arm muscles so that I stop thinking I have fat, ugly sausage arms
-Live long and prosper

You know...the usual.

I too have some of the same goals. My main one wanting to be healthy and fit when we decide to have babies. Also to not hate my arms.
I am currently doing Weight Watchers and it is definitely nice to be accountable to the meetings every week.
Thanks for writing this..it does help to think about goals every now and then, versus just thinking "I haven't lost as much weight as I want"
:)

Those are great goals. I just want to lost the rest of the weight I have been trying to drop for two years because I keep flucuating.

When I first lost 30 lbs I used sparkpeople.com and then quit when I lost the weight, and now I went back again to get inspiration.

I know exactly how you feel and I have similar goals. Great idea to share them too! I wish you lived closer! I'd run a 5k with you! :)

I never thought about the pregnancy weight issue so that's a new one on my list!

I'd love to get to my pre-meeting Matt weight. Marriage and Love is horrible for your waistline! lol

Hi Jenny! Thank you for commenting my guest post today! It really is amazing how many women suffer from the exact same things and how much we have in common. Your reasons behind wanting to get healthy are MY reasons too. We have a lot in common that way. Glad to have met you today!

Why am I trying to lose weight?

- to finally rock some skinny jeans
- to not feel like i have to wear shorts with my bikinis
- to be able to run as far as I want, or as long as I want, and enjoy it

oh yes the dreaded dieting.... I too want to run a 5K, and would love to look super hot at my sister's wedding in June... and would also love single digit jeans, and would LOVE to wear a bikini and not feel like everyone was totally judging me for it!

Ok, here goes:
1. Kids. I want to be in good shape and healthy before I get pregnant (in 500 years b/c we cannot afford children + live in sibling on my income)--and I want to return to my semi good bod post baby. Obviously.
2. Running! I love running (yes, I am a freak) and I know that when I eat healthier, I run better.
3. I have a fabulous medical condition (yay for finally being diagnosed) and know that I can control some of the symptoms by what I do or don't eat. I'm still trying to balace the whole 'you'll get sick if you eat that cookie/ice cream/cupcake but it will be soooo worth it thing' (it's not worth it, but, I'm stupid)
4. Pure vanity. I refuse to buy new clothes. I just ordered a super cute shirt and top online and ordered the same size I've been ordered for 2 years--um, yeah, super tight. I gotta lose the chub--and, I took the tags off. Again, I'm an idiot. How did I ever graduate college?
5. Be happy with 'me'. Yikes!

Pregnancy is a big thing for me, as well. I want to be in the body I love before I get pregnant because I know it will probably be many many years until I will ever see that body again (if ever) once the babies start rolling in.

And of course, I don't want to be scared of what I will look like naked in 50 years (or next week as Shaina said the other day).

By the way, you are beautiful.

You can do it, hun! But remember, you are beautiful and by no means even eligible for the Biggest Loser! Wear those tank tops! You're gorgeous!
